A powerful new children’s book, inspired by the true story of a boy from Letchworth who went from uncommunicative resistant reader into a confident storyteller, launches today at David's Bookshop.
The Bestest Story in the World… Ever! by storyteller and author Chip Colquhoun is inspired by the real life experience of Noah Shaw, now aged 11, who had little interest in books, struggled with literacy, and almost never spoke at school. That was, until Noah encountered Chip's stories - and storytelling changed everything.

The story follows Noah Whitewood, a boy who feels anxious when given instruction, and who prefers to spend time on his tablet rather than reading or listening to stories.
When a Young Inventor competition gives him the chance to prove himself, Noah becomes determined to win. But then he is visited by a mysterious storytelling elf, who begins appearing in his bedroom every night.As the elf returns with increasingly strange tales, Noah finds himself doing things he has never done before. This includes talking to people, sharing ideas, and discovering strengths he never realised he had.
Blending humour, adventure, and emotion, The Bestest Story in the World… Ever! explores themes of resilience, literacy, oracy, imagination, and self-belief. It is ideal for readers aged 9+, as well as educators and parents looking to encourage confidence and communication among their children.
